Why harmony, not suppression, is the true strategy
By Dr. Sandra Mckenzie / Lifestyle Medicine Specialist
Women have been conditioned to fear estrogen — weight gain, fibroids, mood swings, breast cancer risk.
But estrogen isn’t the villain.
The real problem lies in estrogen mismanagement — how it is metabolized, balanced, cleared, and communicated within the endocrine system.
Estrogen needs:
• progesterone to balance mood and sleep
• thyroid to regulate metabolism
• insulin to stabilize weight and cravings
• a healthy microbiome to detoxify and recirculate safely
• adequate liver function for clearance
When any link in that chain falters, symptoms emerge:
– irritability
– heavy or irregular cycles
– night sweats
– migraines
– weight gain around hips/thighs
– mood swings
– breast tenderness
Realignment is the key to restabilization.
Balancing estrogen means:
stabilizing stress hormones
healing gut dysbiosis
identifying endocrine disruptors
supporting liver detox pathways
restoring progesterone synergy
replenishing micronutrients and omega-3s
protecting sleep architecture
Women feel better when symptoms disappear — but heal because systems communicate again.
