How emotional wounds shape physical illness
By Dr. Sandra Mckenzie / Lifestyle Medicine Specialist
We are trained to look at disease only through the lens of symptoms and lab results—yet the body is always speaking long before illness appears.
Chronic stress, grief, unprocessed trauma, and emotional overload dismantle the immune system and erode our cellular health from the inside out.
Many illnesses don’t begin in the body—they begin in the mind. The body keeps score of every emotional wound we bury, every fear we suppress, every truth we silence. When we ignore what hurts emotionally, the body will eventually speak for us physically.
True prevention must address the root, not just the branches.
Nutrition, exercise, and supplements matter—but without mental and emotional alignment, they become band-aids rather than transformation. Healing requires us to come home to ourselves, to listen inwardly, to reconnect with the wisdom of the body.
Reflection Moment
Ask yourself today: What is my body trying to tell me that I have been ignoring? Sometimes the first step toward healing is simply listening.
